A handful of UK locations will remain open on Christmas Day for those who’d prefer fast food to turkey
While most Brits will be feasting on a traditional turkey dinner on Christmas Day, others might prefer something different – like a classic McDonald’s takeaway. Not everyone celebrates Christmas, and despite the majority of the country shutting down for a day of festivities, some businesses will remain open as usual.
Some of McDonald’s branches will close their doors, while others will remain open to the public. There are approximately 1,400 different McDonald’s restaurants across the UK, with many offering 24-hour service throughout the year.
Out of these, the majority will be closed for the day, but a select few will keep their grills and fryers sizzling for anyone hankering after a Big Mac, a Chicken Sandwich, or a portion of fries. Some will even open up for a few hours to let those unwrapping presents in the morning enjoy a Sausage and Egg McMuffin, a stack of pancakes or a steaming hot McCafe drink.
We’ve made a list to see which McDonald’s outlets will be serving on Christmas Day. In total, there will be 39 locations open on December 25, an increase from 2024, when only 28 outlets were open.
Some will maintain regular hours, staying open all day and night and into Boxing Day morning. A few chains will only be open for breakfast, and others may shut up shop in the evening, reports the Mirror.
The fast food giant’s website states: “Only a handful of McDonald’s restaurants open on Christmas Day, please refer to the restaurant locator to confirm if your local restaurant is open during the Christmas period and what times they are trading.”
People can find out the different opening times at their local McDonanld’s chain online by searching their local town/city or postcode. It should offer a complete list of nearby options with a specific section with festive opening hours.
