It was an emotional afternoon at Anfield as Liverpool and Wolves met for the first time since the tragic death of Diogo Jota.

There was a touching tribute to the 28-year-old, who died in July after being involved in a road traffic accident alongside his brother. And his two sons were mascots for the Reds.

And on the pitch, Arne Slot’s side did their best to honour their team-mate with all three points as they look to return to form after a period of tough results. The Reds looked to be doing just that after a quick one-two from Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz.

However, as Liverpool so have this season, seemingly ran out of legs. Wolves fired back in the 51st minute – and they looked a changed team.

Rob Edwards’ side are yet to win a game this season, but were suddenly playing with confidence at the home of the Champions – and Liverpool were getting more and more nervous.

Slot’s team, even after winning, didn’t look convincing – they created next to nothing in the second half. The Dutch boss has to find a why to stop his midfield running out of steam – or the bad results could return.

“People can’t say it’s not Slot’s tactics, you could see the positioning of our midfield drop back 10 yards when Wolves had the ball in the last 35 minutes – Slot would have been shouting at them if it wasn’t his tactics,” a second post.

“I still believe Liverpool will go nowhere under Slot. He doesn’t have any special tactics to win games, even against relegation teams,” a third sighed. And another added: “Why does Slot set up the team to sit back and invite pressure? It is so frustrating to watch…”
