Sam Kerr’s fiancée reveals cute new particulars about their impending marriage ceremony – together with the particular position their son Jagger will play

  • Kristie Mewis makes new revelations on podcast

Sam Kerr‘s fiancée  Kristie Mewis has revealed some more intimate details about their wedding as the days count down until football’s power couple tie the knot in Perth.

The Matildas star will marry her long-term partner and mother of their child Jagger on New Year’s Eve in Perth next week.

Speaking on the Mewis Squared podcast, the American football star revealed they will both be wearing matching suits, with their son also dressed in a mini-version of their wedding attire.

While the exact location of the wedding remains tightly under wraps, Mewis said it was going to be a big occasion as the nerves start to kick in.

‘Obviously it is a lot of people, I know people have a lot bigger weddings than that but that’s a lot,’ Mewis, 34, said.

‘For me to wrap my head around talking to 120 people in one night is a lot and the things that worry me is that I’m not going to be able to give enough time to everybody, so that’s what I’m stressing about right now’.

Mewis was chatting with her sister Sam on the podcast and also spoke about the role Jagger will play in the nuptials.

‘I feel like he’s a little bit too young to have a role but Sam is going to walk with him down the aisle which is very, very sweet,’ Mewis said.

‘That is going to be gut-wrenching for me, I will sob when that happens.

‘He’s probably going to be wearing a little matching outfit with her, it’s going to be absolutely adorable so he’s just chilling for the ceremony’.

And the one thing that Mewis is not looking for is the heat, with their wedding to be held at the height of an Australian summer.

‘It is going to be a very hot Australian summer,’ she said.

 ‘Like a 95 [Fahrenheit, 35 degrees day] isn’t 87 Boston’.

Kerr and Mewis first met as international opponents, regularly facing each other while representing Australia and the United States.

Their relationship began privately in 2019 while both were playing club football in the US, developing quietly alongside demanding professional schedules.

Public attention increased during the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 when post-match interactions between them drew notice.

They later confirmed their relationship, becoming one of the most high-profile couples in women’s football.

Long periods apart became routine after Kerr moved to Chelsea in England while Mewis continued her career across the US and Europe.

Injuries disrupted Mewis’ playing career, creating uneven moments as Kerr reached new professional peaks.

Despite this, they were frequently seen supporting each other at major tournaments and club matches.

Kerr’s leadership role at Chelsea and prominence with the Matildas coincided with the couple becoming more open publicly.

Then, in early 2023, Kerr became involved in a high-profile court case in the UK following an incident with police where she was charged with racially aggravated harassment.

Mewis has stood by Kerr’s side during a rough period where she faced court and was sidelined with a serious knee injury

The case unfolded while she remained sidelined with an ACL injury, limiting her ability to play or publicly respond, and Kerr was ultimately found not guilty of the charges.

Mewis remained alongside Kerr during this period, largely staying out of the spotlight as proceedings continued. Later in 2023, the couple announced they were expecting a child.

Mewis stepped away from professional football around this time, focusing on recovery and family life.

In 2024, they welcomed their son Jagger, sharing the moment publicly while Kerr continued rehabilitation from injury.

The couple are rumoured to be tying the knot on New Year’s Eve in Perth.

Their honeymoon is expected to be postponed until the middle of next year, with the couple hoping to combine it with travel to the Men’s World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
