Cristiano Ronaldo was given an expensive Christmas gift by fiancée Georgina Rodriguez in 2022, but Spanish politician Miguel Angel Revilla slammed the extravagant purchase
It’s Christmas time, and across the globe, people have been unwrapping presents from their nearest and dearest, savouring the festive joy over recent days.
For celebrities and the wealthy elite, however, gift-giving appears to operate on an entirely different scale compared to ordinary folk. Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, a sporting icon and global household name, once received a stunning £250,000 Rolls Royce from his partner Georgina Rodriguez – rather overshadowing the modest offerings most of us exchanged last week.
The extravagant gesture was so lavish that Spanish politician Miguel Angel Revilla branded it “pornographic”. Video clips of Ronaldo accepting the magnificent motor were shared across social media during Christmas 2022, showing the Portuguese legend’s gift adorned with a striking red ribbon.
For someone already pocketing £173million annually in Saudi Arabia before penning an even more lucrative fresh deal, Ronaldo must present quite the challenge when it comes to present-buying.
Despite this, the football great appeared absolutely delighted with his surprise and was beaming from ear to ear. However, politician Revilla was far from impressed after viewing the footage and explained his concerns during an appearance on Mas vale tarde via Spanish broadcaster La Sexta.
“I thought the present was pornographic,” declared Revilla, who highlighted the financial struggles many face amid soaring inflation.
“With what people are experiencing at the moment, that these things comes out on TV it’s not moral. These types of attitudes seem like hard pornography.”
Ronaldo boasts a lavish collection of high-end vehicles, collectively valued at approximately £17million. His fleet includes a £1m McLaren Senna and a colossal Mercedes G-Wagon Brabus.
Earlier this year, Ronaldo’s earnings skyrocketed when he inked the most profitable contract in sports history with Al-Nassr. He is now set to stay with the club until he turns 42, raking in a whopping £488,000 per day.
The entire package is worth an eye-watering £492m over two years, inclusive of a jaw-dropping £24.5m signing bonus, which could escalate to £38m if he activates the second year of his contract.
SunSport also revealed that a source from the Saudi Pro League disclosed that Ronaldo will receive a 15% ownership stake in Al-Nassr, estimated at £33m.
Should he clinch the golden boot, he’ll pocket another £4m, and if Al-Nassr secure the title, it’s an additional £8m. If these bonuses come into play, Ronaldo could be looking at nearly half a billion pounds in earnings over just two years.
