New images have emerged of Anthony Joshua’s horror car crash that left two people dead on Monday morning.
The British heavyweight was in a Lexus Jeep when it collided with a stationary lorry on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in southwest Nigeria. The 36-year-old boxer, who has family roots in Sagamu, a town in Ogun State, was in Nigeria after he defeated Jake Paul in their lucrative heavyweight match on Netflix earlier this month.
Horrifying images and clips of the aftermath were shared on social media, showing Joshua, who was wearing only a pair of shorts, in his Lexus Jeep looking dazed and wincing in pain as he was freed from the wreckage, along with stricken casualties on the ground. And new images shared from the Nigerian Federal Road Safety Corps show the true scale of the accident.
Sharing images of the crash, the post on X read: “The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) wishes to confirm a fatal road traffic crash that occurred today Monday, 29 December 2025, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
“Preliminary reports from the Ogun Sector Command indicate that the crash occurred at about 1200HRS and was promptly reported to the Corps.
“FRSC operatives arrived at the scene within three (3) minutes of notification, enabling swift rescue operations, evacuation of victims, effective traffic control, and prevention of secondary crashes.
“The primary causes of the crash being excessive speed and wrongful overtaking constitute serious traffic violations and remain among the leading causes of fatal road crashes on Nigerian highways.
“To this end, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed on behalf of the entire Management and staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured victim, Anthony Joshua a speedy recovery.”
The horror images showed one car with significant damage, while others showed the stationary lorry that was involved in the crash with tape around the side.
Debris can be seen on the ground, as some individuals involved in the clean up are working at the scene.
