An Aussie football star has tragically died in a car crash.
Halle Cameron-Phillips, 23, was killed when the car she was driving collided with a second vehicle on Marine Terrace in Busselton approxiametly 220km southwest of Perth. Heartbreaking tributes have been paid to the promising AFLW player following her death just days after Christmas.
A police spokesman said that Cameron-Phillips died at the scene from the injuries she suffered in the crash. It was reported that her 41-year-old passenger was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Meanwhile, the 44-year-old driver of the second vehicle suffered serious injuries in the crash and was airlifted to a hospital in Perth.
Cameron-Phillips’ aunt Natasha Phillips paid tribute to her niece on behalf of the family, lauding how the proud player was excited to join the Swan Districts Football Club in Perth.
She said: “Since leaving high school, she worked tirelessly, always giving her best and never shying away from hard work. That was just who she was – committed, driven and kind-hearted.
“On that tragic night, Halle was simply driving with her uncle beside her, going about their evening, when their lives were forever changed. Resulting in a moment of unimaginable tragedy, our precious Halle was taken from us, leaving a hole in our family that will never be filled.”
A fundraiser has been set up to help the family pay for funeral costs. Their heartbreaking message said: “Her love, generosity and bright spirit touched so many lives, and her absence leaves a silence that can never truly be filled.”
“The pain of losing Halle is indescribable. The silence she has left behind is overwhelming. Her laughter, her strength, her kindness – all gone far too soon.”
The Busselton Netball Association also paid tribute to the late star. “She will be remembered for her talent, determination and the positive impact she had on those around her,” a spokesman said on a Facebook tribute.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to Halle’s family, friends and teammates during this incredibly difficult time.”
Cameron-Phillips’ former club Eaton also issued a touching statement, writing: “Halle was our 2023 Women’s Runner-up Fairest and Best and a fantastic person to have around the club.
“Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to Halle’s family and friends on your loss.”
