Darts hero Justin Hood turned to the Ally Pally crowd to ask ‘who wants a Chinese?’ after his Asian restaurant dream moved a step closer following his almighty World Championship upset
Darts hero Justin Hood asked the Ally Pally crowd “who wants a Chinese” after his dream moved a step closer to being fulfilled.
The World No.86’s World Championship venture continues after he whitewashed firm favourite Josh Rock in a stunning display on Tuesday afternoon. ‘Happy Feet’ threw a 101.18 average and had an incredible 100 per cent record on the doubles until he missed match darts to win the game.
Hood has been the big story at Ally Pally this year with the infectious character of the Glastonbury thrower being backed up by his talent at the oche. And Hood previously revealed that his winnings from his debut World Championship campaign will go towards achieving his dream of opening a Chinese restaurant.
The 32-year-old has climbed 36 places in the PDC Order of Merit to No.50 in the world, picking up £100,000 for reaching the final eight of the competition.
Speaking to Sky Sports in his post-match interview on stage, ‘Happy Feet’ said: “It’s not a fairy tale. I know what I can do and it’s nice to prove it up here.
“I was thinking about it (the doubles). It was on the screen! The only time I had a bit of nerves when I was throwing to win it in the penultimate leg. It’s very overwhelming. I’m not used this. I usually get hate messages. This is mad.”
“I’m not going to change who I am. It’s a game of darts. If I play well, I can win. I’ve proved that today and the last three times I’ve played. I’m doing well, long may it continue.”
Hood was then asked about his previously stated plans to open a Chinese restaurant with his winnings. Giving a definitive reply, he turned to the crowd and shouted: “Who wants a Chinese?”
When he was asked earlier in the tournament about his Asian restaurant dream, Hood admitted his planning was still at an early stage.
“I haven’t looked into it (the finances) properly yet,” he said. “We might be out of business in a week, the amount of food I eat! I wanted to stay in London over Christmas because the Chinese around here are top notch. I love eating it all the time.”
Hood will return to Ally Pally in the New Year where he will face the winner of tonight’s clash between former multiple world champions Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson.
So far in his astonishing run, Hood has beaten Nick Kenny, World No.6 Danny Noppert and Ryan Meikle before dumping out the provisional new world No.7.
