A major update has been given by doctors on Anthony Joshua’s condition after he was involved in a fatal car crash on Monday (December 29). Dramatic footage saw the heavyweight boxing champ searing with pain as he got out of the wreckage.

Anthony, 36, was pulled out of the car after it smashed into a stationary lorry on the notorious Lagos-Ibadan motorway. The tragedy ultimately resulted in two people losing their lives in the horror collision.

Since the crash, further updates regarding Anthony Joshua’s health have been released. Meanwhile, his worried mum has rushed to Nigeria to be by her darling son following the terrifying incident, seen by dozens of people as it happened.

According to the Sun, doctors have ruled that the serious injuries Anthony sustained during the crash were actually not as bad as they had first thought. It has now been revealed that Anthony will remain in hospital for the next couple of days but will be discharged to recover at home.

Sources close to the British-Nigerian boxing legend have said that the injuries were not as severe as first believed. It comes after terrifying footage showed a dazed Anthony grimacing in pain as he was brought out of the Lexus SUV he had been travelling in.

Anthony will continue to be treated at a private hospital, whilst mother Meta Odusanya immediately rushed to his bedside. Local media is now reporting that Yeta is now at the Duchess International Hospital in Lagos with her son, and will remain there until he is let go.

The Duchess International Hospital is renowned within Nigeria for its standard of care, and has been awarded the title of being the best hospital in the country for two years running. On top of this, it provides round-the-clock personalised care so that patients can recover as quickly as possible.

However, whilst Anthony continues his recovery, it is currently unknown as to how much the crash could have affected him both physically and mentally. Five men were in the car when it smashed into the truck, ultimately killing pals Latz Ayodele and Sina Ghami.

The other remaining two occupants of the car are reported to have miraculously walked away from the crash “relatively unharmed”. Dozens of people raced to the scene following the crash to get the victims out, with emergency services being called to the scene a short time later.

Police investigating the collision in Nigeria have since confirmed that the Lexus had been travelling “beyond the legally prescribed speed limit”. Their initial findings reported that the car “lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre”, which ultimately resulted in the smash.

However, not everyone is fully convinced of the details of the crash, with eyewitnesses revealing that there had been a blowout of the car’s tyres just seconds before the vehicle crashed. Investigations into what really happened on the road are still ongoing.

The Lagos-Ibadan highway is notorious for its number of high-speed crashes, as it connects the country’s most populous cities. The speed limit has been reported to be 100 kilometres an hour (62 miles per hour) for private cars.
