Patrick Mahomes‘ bad luck is continuing after the injured Kansas City Chiefs quarterback lost a bet with one of his rookie teammates this week.
Mahomes is recovering from an ACL tear at the team’s facility and entered into a friendly wager with rookie linebacker Jeffrey Bassa – that he has come out on the wrong end of.
Mahomes’ Texas Tech were playing against Bassa’s Oregon in the Orange Bowl on Thursday, and it appears the graduate of the losing team was forced into wearing the uniform of their rival.
It was a disastrous day for Mahomes and the Red Raiders, after Oregon ran out 23-0 winners to seal the bowl win… and a forfeit for QB1.
In a short video posted to Bassa’s Instagram Stories, Mahomes can be seen in the No 2 jersey of Bassa, while sitting at the Chiefs’ facility continuing his rehab.
Fans on social media quickly jumped on the hilarious clip, with one noting that ‘QB1 is really having a go of it.’

Another joked ‘probably the first time he’s worn anything Nike in a while’, given Mahomes’ long-standing sponsorship by Adidas.
He last month expanded his partnership with the sportswear brand to include a new golf line, which has yet to be released.
As for Mahomes’ health, the Chiefs are hopeful to have their iconic QB back for the start of the 2026 season, after they tanked in his absence since mid-December.
He tore both his ACL and LCL against the Chargers on December 15, and after losing that game Kansas City has fallen to the Tennessee Titans and Denver Broncos.
On Sunday, their season finishes on the road in Las Vegas, who themselves are hoping to lose and secure the No 1 spot in April’s 2026 NFL Draft.
