Eva Schloss, the step-sister of Anne Frank, has died at the age of 96. King Charles said she will be remembered for devoting her life to “promoting kindness, courage and understanding.”

Queen Camilla is Patron of the the Anne Frank Trust, of which Eva was co-Founder and Honorary President. In a tribute posted on X the King said: “My wife and I are greatly saddened to hear of the death of Eva Schloss.

“The horrors that she endured as a young woman are impossible to comprehend and yet she devoted the rest of her life to overcoming hatred and prejudice, promoting kindness, courage, understanding and resilience through her tireless work for the Anne Frank Trust U.K. and for Holocaust education across the world.

“We are both privileged and proud to have known her and we admired her deeply. May her memory be a blessing to all.”

Eva was born Eva Geiringer in 1929 in Vienna. She was imprisoned in Auschwitz-Birkenau along with her mother, father and brother.

After soviet troops liberated them in 1945 she returned to Amsterdam after the war with her mother, though tragically her father and brother did not survive the Nazi death camp.

Her mother later married Otto Frank meaning Eva became the posthumous stepsister of Anne Frank.

Eva spent her life championing Holocaust education and sharing her experiences during the war with audiences around the globe. She worked tirelessly to ensure the horrors of the Holocaust were not forgotten.
