Amorim was sacked by Manchester United after a transfer rant following the draw with Leeds United – and bookies think they know who will replace him
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is the early favourite to take over as Manchester United manager – with betting suspended on the Austrian taking over.
Glasner, who led the London club to their first ever trophy by winning the FA Cup last season, was just 2/1 with some bookies to take over at Old Trafford. But that’s come down even further and bookies have suspended bets.
Glasner emerged as favourite after Ruben Amorim was sacked this morning, following a bombshell press conference after United’s 1-1 draw with Leeds on Sunday.
Former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Glasner has been praised for leading Palace into Europe after beating Manchester City 1-0 in May’s FA Cup final.
Other early contenders include former United players Michael Carrick and Laurant Blanc, and ex-England boss Gareth Southgate.
Palace will be desperate to hold onto Glasner, who has been a fan favourite since his arrival at Selhurst Park back in 2024.
The Portuguese boss has left his position at Old Trafford after a nightmare 14 months in charge, with his final match a 1-1 draw away at Leeds United on Sunday. United are currently sixth in the Premier League after finishing last season in 15th place and losing the Europa League final.
United have issued a statement confirming Amorim’s sacking. It read: “Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United. Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.
