This is the moment a dad talks to his alleged murderer just moments before having his tongue severed during a brutal torture killing.

Cumali Turhan was spotted at a Chelmsford pub in Essex alongside Ceyhan Dinler on November 19, 2024, before the duo made their way to a neighbouring establishment. The 45-year-old was subsequently stabbed and mutilated, with Dinler escaping to Turkey the following day.

A Channel 4 documentary titled “Catching a Killer: Buried Truths” has exposed the disturbing particulars of the father-of-one’s final living moments and the police hunt for his body at a massive waste facility. Dinler – who remains at large – allegedly knifed Cumali in the throat at Barista bar before departing the UK via Stansted airport the subsequent day.

The victim’s tongue tip and portions of his private parts had been severed and discarded in a refuse container during the savage assault. Injuries to the tongue’s base suggested it had been pulled out and sliced whilst Cumali remained conscious, officers revealed.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe spearheaded the investigation that ultimately returned Cumali’s remains to his mourning relatives. Her squad eventually located his corpse 45 days following the killing, 20 miles distant at the Enovert landfill facility in Stanway, reports the Mirror.

It’s believed to be the first occasion a police search of a landfill site has successfully recovered a body in the UK.

Across 10 locations, officers conducted searches using 1,650 shifts in total.

Romanian national Ciprian Ilie, 44, was sentenced to seven years behind bars last October after being convicted of assisting an offender and preventing a lawful burial.

His trial was told that Cumali had supposedly been involved with Dinler’s girlfriend, creating an “ongoing and simmering issue” between the two men.

CCTV footage captured them at The Glove pub in Chelmsford after the suspected killer had called his target four times.

The men were seen having a “heated” exchange before shaking hands and departing together.

It appears Dinler then enticed Cumali to the Barista bar on Duke Street, just a minute’s walk from the local police station.

CCTV footage didn’t capture the victim leaving, and officers subsequently discovered his blood on the ceiling and the suspect’s bloody fingerprint on a table.

The Tottenham Hotspur supporter and Turkish national was fatally knifed in the neck after being mutilated, prosecutors allege.

Ms Metcalfe commented following the grisly discovery of the body parts: “Certainly not what I was expecting on a Saturday afternoon.”

Another detective remarked: “He’s gone to an extreme in this case. He hasn’t just stabbed this person multiple times, he has caused extreme pain to this person by torturing them.”

Ilie was apprehended at a homeless shelter after confessing to a worker that he had cleaned up the bar following the murder. He subsequently alleged he was menaced with a knife by Dinbler before being compelled to assist in retrieving the body and placing it in a wheelie bin.

Cumali’s remains were then unknowingly disposed of in landfill by bin collectors.

The mother of Cumali’s daughter revealed they had separated following their son’s death at a tender age. He sent a text to his former partner shortly before his death stating: “I’m sorry for everything, I’m sorry I failed my family.”

Essex Police continue seeking to question Dinler regarding the death and confirmed they were collaborating with the Crown Prosecution Service to locate him. Ms Metcalfe stated: “Throughout this extremely challenging investigation every officer and member of staff involved was committed to finding Cumali and securing justice for him and his loved ones.

“At the heart of this case is a father who lost his life in truly horrific circumstances and a young daughter who must grow up without him. We never lost sight of this, and we are resolute in our determination to ensure our main suspect in this case is also brought before the courts.”

Sergeant Simon Gray, who was also part of the search operation, commented: “I hope this documentary shows people the dedication and commitment of everyone involved in that search. We were faced with an incredibly challenging environment and often poor weather conditions, which hampered this sensitive and intricate work. It was never lost on us that we needed to find Cumali and bring him home to his family.”
