Marc Guehi missed out on a deadline day move to Liverpool in the summer

Liverpool have yet to make their first move, but it seems to be on the horizon as the transfer window has been open for nearly a week.

Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo have been making headlines as potential big-name transfers. The Reds appear to have missed out on Semenyo to Manchester City, who are ready to meet his £65million release clause. However, Semenyo hasn’t left the Cherries just yet, and any delay could spark further speculation.

Liverpool will be hoping that City don’t throw a spanner in the works for a deal involving Guehi. The Crystal Palace star has been linked with a move to join Pep Guardiola’s squad, after his proposed transfer to the Premier League champions fell through on the summer transfer deadline day, with City grappling with several injuries in defence. Here’s all the latest news from Anfield.

Marc Guehi rollercoaster continues

Pep Guardiola has downplayed the likelihood of being as active in the January transfer window as the previous year, while rumours swirl around a potential move for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.

Just 12 months ago, Manchester City brought in Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov. However, it’s now reported the Premier League giants are keen to act swiftly to secure Guehi, whose contract expires in the summer.

The England defender witnessed a proposed switch to Liverpool fall through during the summer and has subsequently attracted attention from Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Guardiola’s comments don’t completely dismiss the possibility of January business.

“Maybe we will get something, but it’s completely different [to last year],” Guardiola remarked before Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Brighton.

“We are not going to buy four or five players like happened last season to be the [highest] net spend in this country. We are not, but apparently always we are.”

Glasner says Guehi can leave

Palace manager Oliver Glasner has confirmed Guehi can leave this transfer window.

The Eagles boss – linked to a move to crisis hit Manchester United as his contract at Palace also expires in the summer – has spoken out. He said: “Everybody wants that he plays for Crystal Palace, signs a new contract and stays here for ever.

“On the other side, there’s the situation that the contract ends in the summer and if somebody is coming, there will be a moment when the club says: ‘Now the financial issue is more important than the sport issue – we have to do it and try to get the best’.

“That’s why I’m always saying: ‘I don’t know.’ Because this is different. There will be a threshold where the club has to say [sell] … If the player says: ‘I want to leave’ and the money is above the threshold, it will happen.

“I’m not so naive not to know that if a massive offer comes from [Manchester] City and Marc wants to do it, it will happen.”

First deal close

Liverpool are in discussions over a deal to sign teenage defender Mor Ndiaye. The 18-year-old plays for Senegalese second-tier side Amitie FC, which is owned by former Newcastle United and Chelsea striker Demba Ba.

Ndiaye impressed at the Under-17s World Cup in Qatar, starting all four of Senegal’s matches before they were knocked out by Uganda at the round of 32 stage.

Ndiaye is anticipated to join Liverpool’s Under-21s setup should a deal go through and help strengthen the Reds’ defensive choices at academy level.

His potential arrival would partially compensate for the fact that Wellity Lucky is now a regular feature in the first-team squad, reports the Mirror.
