Tyson Fury’s 5 potential subsequent opponents after Anthony Joshua message and retirement claims

Tyson Fury could be making a comeback to the boxing ring, but only if the opponent is worth his while. He retired from the sport last January after suffering back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.

However, there’s been rampant speculation that the two-time heavyweight champion could return this year for a highly anticipated super-fight with Anthony Joshua, a match-up fans have been eagerly awaiting throughout both fighters’ careers.

Promoter Frank Warren confirmed plans for a potential fight in late summer 2026, but those plans were put on hold in late 2025 when news broke of Joshua’s involvement in a fatal car accident in Nigeria, which resulted in the death of two team members.

Despite claims by a man claiming to be Joshua’s uncle that the 36-year-old is ready to retire following the incident, the Mirror reports that no such decision has been made.

With a potential face-off between the two still a possibility, and Fury listing Joshua among the opponents he’d like to fight, we examine five potential contenders who could step into the ring with the boxing legend this year.
