Manchester United face transfer decisions with Manuel Ugarte linked to Ajax loan, Scott McTominay return possible and £26m Breno Bidon wanted as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer talks loom
It’s been a hectic week for Manchester United, who are juggling the search for a new head coach while exploring the January transfer market following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal.
Darren Fletcher stepped in as caretaker head coach for United’s league clash with Burnley on Wednesday, but given the match ended in a 2-2 stalemate at Turf Moor, the board may be seeking someone with more experience to take charge until the season’s end.
Both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick have been mentioned as potential candidates for a temporary role, with the club scheduled to hold discussions with both figures this week. And with that in mind, Daily Star Sport some of the players who have been linked with a move
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer makes feelings on Scott McTominay return clear
Scott McTominay has been touted for a stunning return to the north west after flourishing at Napoli. The Scotland international moved to the Serie A side in 2024, and helped Gli Azzurri secure the league crown in his debut campaign, reports the Mirror.
However, if Solskjaer is appointed as the interim head coach at Old Trafford, he could push for the Red Devils to re-sign their academy graduate.
Speaking about the midfielder in 2019, Solskjaer said: “He’s been excellent, and now that him and Fred work in a good relationship, work well together did that last season, PSG, when we had a few injuries and now as well they are working as a pair.
“Scotty’s a leader, a Manchester United boy, you can see he’s been a striker with the goal at Norwich on a half turn, but he’s developing into a very good midfielder.”
Plans for Manuel Ugarte’s departure emerge
According to reports, Ajax are keen on securing Ugarte’s services this month. Dutch outlet VI has suggested that the Uruguayan is open to a move to the Eredivisie giants after struggling to make an impact in the Premier League.
A loan deal until the end of the season seems to be the most feasible option for Ajax, although his reported weekly wage of £120,000 could pose a challenge. This could lead United to negotiate the percentage of the salary that Ajax would be willing to cover.
Since joining Old Trafford from PSG in a £42.1million deal in 2024, Ugarte has made 61 appearances across all competitions for Manchester United.
