Women are lusting after cowboy-style moustaches and find them sexier than a six pack.

Beer bellied blokes can ditch the gym memberships this January after findings revealed all you need is “outlaw” whiskers. Facial hair sported by the likes of Val Kilmer in Tombstone, Robert Redford’s Sundance Kid and Yosemite Sam were more of a turn on than chiselled abs.

Some 71% of lasses said a man with facial hair was instantly more attractive than one with muscles. And the “outlaw moustache” was voted the sexiest style overall, with the classic clean-shaven look officially out, ranking in ninth place in a top ten.

Chevron style whiskers, such as seventies heart-throb Tom Selleck, came in second place, while stubble came in third at 16%.

A full beard (13%) and a neatly trimmed goatee (9%) completed the top five.

Experts said facial hair was seen as a sign of confidence, character, and masculinity according to the study from dating app Wisp.

Wisp dating expert Sylvia Linzalone said the results reflect a new kind of masculinity emerging among modern daters.

She said: “The days of the six-pack being the ultimate turn-on are fading fast.

“Facial hair gives a man instant character – it suggests confidence, maturity, and a bit of mystery. Women are craving authenticity over aesthetics.

“What this survey shows is that attraction isn’t about perfection – it’s about personality.

“A moustache tells a story. It shows individuality, and that’s what women are responding to. They’re choosing character over push-ups.”
