A major thoroughfare in Bolton is shut this morning due to a ‘serious accident’ that occurred in the early hours. A substantial police cordon has been established on Wigan Road in Deane, following the collision which happened around 12.45am.
Photographs from the scene depict severely damaged vehicles with wreckage scattered all over the road. It’s believed that as many as six individuals have been transported to hospital after a car and a taxi were involved in the crash.
The serious collision investigation unit of Greater Manchester Police is currently at the site. Traffic information provider Inrix characterised the incident as a ‘serious accident’, stating that the road was sealed off in both directions from Deane Church Lane to Bankfield Street.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for a statement, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Local councillor Ayyub Patel said he was ‘deeply saddened’ by the ‘serious incident’. He added: “I want to express my gratitude to the emergency services for their swift and professional response in such difficult circumstances.
“Our community will stand together in support and we will await further updates from the authorities.”
