Manor Road remains closed as suspected WWII device handed to Wallasey Police Station is examined by authorities
Road closures have been implemented in Wallasey in Wirral following the handover of an “unexploded bomb” to the police.
Merseyside Police reported that at around 2.40pm on Monday, January 12, a member of the public arrived at Wallasey Police Station on Manor Road with what is believed to be a World War Two bomb.
Manor Road has been shut down as a safety measure while the device undergoes further examination. At this point, the police station remains open and investigations are ongoing, reports the Liverpool Echo. A reporter at the scene there is a large cordon in place on Manor Road from Withens Lane to Wimbledon Street, right next to Wallasey Police station. People are being allowed to pass in and out.
One man told the Echo: “I live right next to the police station and if anything happens my house would be the first to go up. I hope they know what they’re doing.”
