Iconic ex-Marseille supervisor Rolland Courbis who coached Ballon d’Or winner dies

An iconic manager and former player for some of the biggest teams in French football has sadly passed away.

Rolland Courbis passed away today (January 12) at the age of 72, after playing and managing clubs such as Marseille, Stade Rennes Olympique Lyonnais, and AS Monaco.

Courbis also helped in the development of Ousmane Dembélé , who went on to win the Ballon d’Or, during his early career with Rennes. He would later go on to be considered one of the voices of French football in the role as a pundit.

News of his death was broken by Karim Nedjari, RMC’s general manager, on RMC radio. He said: “Rolland Courbis passed away this morning at five o’clock in the morning.”
