Pregnant lady and unborn child die in crash as eight others rushed to hospital

Police have confirmed that the woman who tragically died in a Co Antrim crash at the weekend was expecting a baby.

Cathrene Kith Quiñones Singco lost her life following the two-vehicle collision close to Nutts Corner in Crumlin on Sunday afternoon, January 11. Detective Inspector Stewart from the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit stated: “We can also confirm that, sadly, Cathrene was pregnant and her baby also died as a result of the collision.

“Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time. We are investigating what happened and require the public’s assistance with our enquiries. Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have any dash-cam footage of the road at the time which could assist with our investigation, please contact us in the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 735 11/01/26.”, reports Belfast Live.

Eight individuals were rushed to hospital following the crash on Sunday afternoon. Cathrene was travelling as a rear-seat passenger and succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

A man in his 30s, who was also a passenger in the same vehicle, suffered critical injuries. Several other people received minor injuries in the collision.

A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed: “NIAS received a 999 call at 14:05 on Sunday, 11th January, following reports of a road traffic collision in the Moria Road area, Crumlin.

“NIAS dispatched six emergency ambulances, three ambulance officers, two HART Teams and the Charity Air Ambulance with HEMS on board were also tasked to the scene.

“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, four patients were taken to Antrim Area Hospital by Ambulance while another four patients were taken to Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast, three by ambulance and one by Air Ambulance.”
