A video appearing to show a driver reaching speeds of over 120mph and recklessly weaving through traffic is being examined by police as part of their investigation into a fatal head-on collision in Bolton on Sunday (January 11).

The footage appears to depict a car going down a bustling street at high speed, overtaking other vehicles and dangerously swerving onto the wrong side of the road. At one point, the car’s speedometer seems to hit an alarming 122mph.

The MEN has learned that the video is thought to have been recorded by a passenger in the Seat Leon involved in the deadly crash on Wigan Road.

The horrific accident claimed the lives of three teenagers in the Seat, as well as the driver of a Citroen C4 Picasso taxi.

Today (January 12), the Uber driver was identified as 54-year-old Masrob Ali, reports the Manchester Evening News.

A timestamp on the widely shared social media clip indicates it was filmed at 3am, believed to be Saturday morning (January 10) – less than 24 hours before the fatal incident occurred at 12.50am on Sunday.

It is understood that Greater Manchester Police are scrutinising the footage as part of their ongoing investigations.

Police reported that emergency services rushed to the scene on Wigan Road following a head-on collision between the red Seat and the Picasso. The driver and two passengers of the Seat were killed in the crash.

The victims have been named as 18-year-olds Mohammed Jibrael Mukhtar and Farhan Patel, along with 19 year old Mohammed Danyaal.

Five injured passengers were rushed to hospital from the scene. A 29-year-old woman in the Citroen sustained injuries that could be life-threatening.

A 28-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man suffered serious injuries, while a 29-year-old man has minor injuries. An 18-year-old man, who was a also passenger in the Seat, remains in hospital receiving treatment for minor injuries.

Mr Ali’s family remembered him as ‘the gentlest soul’, revealing that he had been a taxi driver for approximately 10 years.

His eldest child, 29-year-old Humayra, said: “Nobody has a bad word to say against him, he was so kind and the best dad. When they knocked on our door and told us what had happened I was just so confused.

“Dad was such a safe driver and even when we said we were worried something might happen he would say ‘don’t worry about me’.”

Detective Inspector Andrew Page, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, stated: “We are still in the early stages of our investigation and work is ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this terrible incident. As an investigation team we would encourage people to be mindful of sharing footage on social media given the impact this will have on all the families involved in such a tragic incident.

“Thanks to patrols in the area, teams were able to get to the incident location quickly to what was a particularly challenging scene for colleagues in the emergency services. I want to thank first responders from our Bolton district and the Road Policing Unit, alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and the North West Ambulance Service for their hard work since this incident.

“The scene closed on Sunday evening, but we are still appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Anyone who saw the vehicle driving before the collision, witnessed the incident itself, or has dashcam/ CCTV footage of the incident can share it with us.
