A young woman has been remembered as a “truly beautiful soul” following her sudden and tragic death after a house party in Huddersfield.

Polly Zajdler, aged 29, was described by her heartbroken family as a “free spirit” who loved animals, music and going to gigs, and who had a “quirky sense of style” and wide circle of friends.

Her mum Sharon portrayed Polly as a wonderful daughter and sister to her two siblings, an inquest at Bradford Coroners’ Court heard.

In a statement, Sharon said Polly, who hailed from Pudsey, near Leeds, was in a happy relationship with her boyfriend, Scott, and they were planning to move in together.

She expressed that her daughter’s death had been a great loss to everyone who knew Polly, adding: “We will miss her terribly and will love her always.”

Polly had attended school in Pudsey, and had studied photography at college in Bradford before securing a job as a care navigator where she was well liked by staff and patients, her mum shared.

On the evening of August 8 last year, Polly and Scott attended a party at a friend’s house in South Avenue, Fartown, Huddersfield. Polly had consumed alcohol as well as taking a number of prescribed and controlled drugs, reports Yorkshire Live.

Later, Polly was described as being unsteady on her feet and had been assisted upstairs and into bed. At around 5am the next day, Scott noticed that something was wrong with Polly as she was unresponsive.

Chest compressions were initiated and an ambulance was called but tragically, Polly’s life could not be saved.

Examinations showed multiple substances present in Polly’s body. The level of one particular drug was described as “very high” and fell within parameters that had previously resulted in deaths.

A pathologist determined that the mixture of various substances combined with alcohol had led to her death. Police enquiries found no indication of any suspicious circumstances.

Assistant coroner Caroline Chandler observed that the gathering at South Avenue had involved three individuals who had consumed prescription and controlled substances into the early hours alongside alcohol.

Ms Chandler stated the consumption of drugs and alcohol had “enhanced” the sedative effects and triggered respiratory depression. She noted Polly had ingested a substantial amount of substances, some of which had been prescribed to her and others that hadn’t.

The coroner determined that Polly had died as a result of misadventure. She died from a “deliberate act” that had unintended consequences, the coroner determined.

She offered her condolences to Polly’s boyfriend and her mum.

In the wake of Polly’s death, relatives and friends collected approximately £6,000 through a Go Fund Me campaign to assist with funeral costs and a memorial service. Nearly 200 people donated to the fund.

A message on the fundraising page read: “Polly was a loving daughter, sister and loyal friend to many. She had a beautiful, kind, caring soul who touched the hearts of everyone who she met. Polly was a person who you could meet once and you would walk away with a new friend. She had a passion for animals, nature, music, and unique, quirky things.”

Donors were acknowledged for their heartfelt messages and generous contributions.

The post described Polly’s funeral service as “a beautiful day filled with glorious sunshine, love and happy memories, just as she would have wanted.

“You all helped us give Polly the send off she deserved and it will not go unforgotten.”
