Over 1.15 million incidents of fly-tipping were reported by local authorities in England between April 2023 and March 2024. But just 0.14% of fly-tipping crimes resulted in a prosecution.
Fly-tipping is a criminal offence and if found guilty, you could face an unlimited fine and up to five years in prison. But clearly this is proving an empty threat.
41 local authorities failed to conduct a single prosecution or issue a single fixed-penalty notice for fly-tipping.
