Trearddur Bay have suspended player Tom Taylor after fans called for a lifetime ban over a ‘disgusting’ elbow during their clash with CPD Porthmadog on Saturday. The club confirmed in a statement that the police have launched an investigation into the outrageous incident following intense backlash online.

A video of the player went viral over the weekend, showing him elbowing a member of the opposition team ahead of a penalty.

The footage was shared on X on Saturday evening and left football fans up in arms as they called for the culprit to be banned for life over the violent act.

The Trearddur Bay player was seen decking the unsuspecting Porthmadog star after throwing a fierce elbow at his face.

A Trearddur Bay FC statement said: “Trearddur Bay FC wish to confirm that it has suspended Tom Taylor from immediate effect following an incident between tbfc and Porthmadog fc yesterday.

“As the matter is subject to a police investigation, the club will not be making any further comment at this stage save that the club in no way condones the use of unlawful behaviour by its staff or players.”

Another agreed and said: “He has just played his last game of football,” while another said: “Cowardly act, hope the [other player] is ok.” A fourth fan added: “That’s beyond unacceptable. Football has no place for that kind of behaviour.”

The Welsh FA have since released a statement which reads: “Tier three matches fall under the jurisdiction of the FAW. The FAW is aware of the incident and will be reviewing it.”

Porthmadog, competing in the Lock Stock Ardal North West League within the third tier of Welsh football, emerged victorious with a 3-2 triumph against Trearddur Bay on Saturday.

The away side seized an early advantage through Tom Hilditch’s 12th-minute strike, though Gruff Ellis restored parity on 27 minutes.

The hosts then forged ahead courtesy of Jonny Bravo’s effort with just six minutes left on the clock, before Gruff John extended their advantage to 3-1 shortly afterwards.

Despite Hilditch completing his brace during added time, his contribution proved insufficient, as Porthmadog secured all three points from the contest.
