Rosie Moore is making it her mission to change the narrative around sharks and has boarded a real-life functional replica of the boat in the infamous movie, Jaws to do so
A scientist known for her gorgeous looks as well as her scientific knowledge has revealed in her latest video that she is grappling with the sea’s most dreaded animal – the shark.
But instead of leaning into the story that sharks are scary – solidified by the famous Spielberg movie, Jaws – she’s hoping to change the narrative from fear to conservation.
Rosie Moore has been dubbed the ‘world’s hottest scientist’ by social media followers educates on her growing channel. The biologist has even appeared in documentaries on Disney and Netflix – with the latter being a shark-based reality show called All The Sharks.
One of Rosie’s latest videos shows her boarding a boat called the Orca – a real-life functional replica of the boat from Jaws that took nine years to build.
Over the background of a reel of short videos, Rosie explains the rationale behind Orca the boat and what her and her team plan to do on it.
She said: “Today, we’re taking her out on her maiden voyage to hunt for sharks. By hunt I mean for science, not the whole harpoon thing from Jaws.
“Captain Mike has converted this into a platform for science and researchers from OFI have quickly brought in a wild assortment of sharks from hammerheads to tiger sharks to nurse sharks.”
She added: “Once these guys are caught the OFI quickly gather data and fit each shark with their own tag and sent them on their way.”
The video ends with a fellow scientist dragging a heavy load of buoys back on to the boat and uttering the immortal line from Jaws: “We’re gonna need a bigger boat.”
Rosie, based in Florida, is a huge hit online and has shared videos of herself handling crocodiles, snakes and anything else that most people wouldn’t be keen to go near.
But Rosie seems to have a special place in her heart for sharks and she captions the video: “Changing the narrative of Jaws from fear to conservation, one tag at a time.”
Many of her followers took to the comments section to praise what she’s doing. One user said: “I just want you to know that there are people out there that you are inspiring with whatever you’re doing here.”
Another wrote: “Awesome and thank you for all you do.”
