Wolverhampton pupils despatched dwelling as police swarm college after physique discovered on grounds

A school in Wolverhampton has been forced to close after body has been found on the grounds in shocking scenes for pupils.

The man’s body has been discovered within the grounds Smestow Academy this morning (January 19) as the school immediately closed and pupils sent home.

Emergency services were reportedly called to the Windmill Crescent school at around 10.40am.

On response, the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. It is currently unknown whether the body was discovered by pupils or staff.

Smestow Academy issued a pubic statement on its website, stating the police incident is “unconnected”.

It read: “School is closing due to an unconnected police incident from 1pm today.”

West Midlands Police confirmed the incident in a statement and said they are they now working to confirm the man’s identity, and the circumstances around his death.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson told BirminghamLive: “We’re currently at Smestow Academy after a discovery of the body in the grounds.

“Emergency services were called at around 10.40am today, and the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Enquiries are now under way to confirm the man’s identity and the circumstances around his death.

“The school is closing to pupils as enquiries get under way.”
