The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) released the full list of health conditions and disabilities that could qualify for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), giving a boost of up to £187 weekly financial support
Brits could be in line for a cash boost of up to £187 if they are claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP). Claimants will have to have one of 178 different conditions in order to get the weekly cash injection.
The Department for Work and Pensions has rolled out a comprehensive list of 178 conditions relating to physical or mental illness that might qualify for this benefit. These extra payouts are aimed at supporting individuals with long-term illnesses, disabilities, learning difficulties, or mental health problems in their daily living and mobility needs.
PIP is tax-free and not subject to means-testing, meaning it’s claimable regardless of employment status, savings, or other benefits received. The payment is divided into two components: the daily living component, which can range from £73.90 or £110.40 per week, as well as mobility component, which goes from £29.20 or £77.05 per week.
Depending on the specific conditions you might have, you could be eligible for one or both components, and the amount awarded hinges on how your condition impacts you. Those qualifying for both enhanced rates might be able to pocket £749.80 every four weeks, while standard rates add up to £412.40 over the same period.
Additional support is also on offer for those coming close to the end of their lives due to terminal illness, according to the Mirror. As bills continue to soar, this benefit could serve as a crucial financial safety net.
Payments are set to climb by 3.8% come April 2026, making PIP an even more valuable resource. This PIP update arrives amidst escalating cost-of-living pressures across the UK, with energy bills, food prices, and household expenses all on the rise.
The lion’s share of claimants — a hefty 3.87 million — reside in England and Wales, with smaller figures noted in Scotland, where cases are shifting to Adult Disability Payment, and among those living overseas. A handful of claims were also logged under unknown locations, pushing the total to 3,882,571 claimants across the nation.
Campaigners have consistently raised the alarm that delays or lack of awareness about eligibility could leave vulnerable individuals without crucial financial support. This underscores the importance for anyone with a long-term condition to verify if they qualify.
If you’re grappling with daily living or mobility due to a long-term condition, it’s worth checking your eligibility as you could be missing out on thousands of pounds annually. However, it’s key to remember that your eligibility for PIP hinges on how your condition affects your life, not merely having one of the illnesses listed below; your condition would need to significantly impact your day-to-day life.
