Chiefs hearth one other coach as Andy Reid’s ruthless offseason overhaul gathers tempo

The Chiefs appear to have parted ways with assistant running backs coach Mark DeLeone as their offseason rebuild continues under Andy Reid.

Kansas City is looking to bounce back from a disastrous 2025 season, when they missed out on the playoffs and lost quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a torn ACL.

A number of key figures on Reid’s staff have already left their post in recent weeks, including offensive coordinator Matt Nagy – who has been chasing a head coaching role – and running backs coach Todd Pinkston.

Now his assistant DeLeone’s profile has disappeared from the Chiefs website amid reports that he, too, has lost his job.

DeLeone returned to Kansas City ahead of the 2025 campaign for a second stint with the Chiefs. He previously worked as linebackers coach and defensive quality control coach.

In 2025, Kareem Hunt was the Chiefs’ leading rusher but his tally of 611 yards ranked 33rd overall in the NFL.

Isiah Pacheco, meanwhile, amassed just 462 yards and one touchdown in another injury-affected season.

Under Reid, the Chiefs had won nine consecutive AFC West titles and reached five Super Bowls in six years heading into the 2025 campaign.

But Kansas City went 6-11 across the regular season and uncertainty now hangs over the future of star players such as tight end Travis Kelce.

On Monday, it emerged that the Chiefs had requested to interview Chicago Bears running backs coach Eric Bieniemy.

Bieniemy worked under Reid in Kansas City from 2013 until 2022 – first as running backs coach and then offensive coordinator. Now, according to The Athletic, the Chiefs are widely expected to bring Bieniemy back as OC in 2026.

‘I’ve been a big fan of him my entire career,’ Kelce told ESPN in 2023 before Bieniemy took another OC job in Washington. ‘He’s done unbelievable things for my skill set, personally, and my mentality, in terms of helping me grow as a player.’
