Manchester United have reportedly reached a deal to produce a The Crown-style TV dramatisation with a Line of Duty star in a multi-million pound project
Manchester United have reportedly reached an agreement for a TV dramatisation programme about the club’s history.
The Red Devils are set to work with a major production company Lionsgate on the multi-million-pound project. Lionsgate have produced films including The Hunger Games, Twilight, Dirty Dancing and La La Land, and United are next on their resume.
The Athletic report that United and Lionsgate will work together on the project and boyhood fan Jed Mercurio, who was involved with Line of Duty and Bodies, has been in talks to be the writer.

It remains unclear how many episodes or seasons the show will last for and the project has not yet been sold to a broadcaster or streaming platform.
While the content of the production also remains unclear, it’s expected the Munich Air Disaster will be a core feature of the show as the club rebuilt from the tragedy to win the European Cup in 1968.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s era of dominance over English football will also likely be prominent; however, the club’s woes since the legendary Scot’s exit could be problematic to portray in a positive light.
United have previously explored having a series and were in talks with Amazon over a Prime Video series similar to Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham’s ‘All or Nothing’ shows.
A £10million deal was reportedly reached between the club and Amazon but Sir Jim Ratcliffe pulled the plug following complaints by Ruben Amorim.
It was concluded that the access-all-areas documentary for the 2025-26 season could distract from the progress of the first-team.
The club spent months negotiating a deal with Amazon and the streaming platform’s offer was reportedly significantly more than their other Premier League fly-on-the-wall series.
However, the Portuguese boss is no longer in a position to reject any such documentaries on the club after he was sacked earlier this month following a furious outburst at the board.
