Landry, named to the role last month, had been invited to attend a sled dog race in March. Now, the Greenland Dog Sledding Association (KNQK) says the invitation, which was made by a private tourism group, has been withdrawn.
In a statement posted on Facebook, KNQK ― which had previously denounced Landry’s planned attendance at the event as “wholly inappropriate” ― called the withdrawal “reassuring.”
Trump wanted to “buy” Greenland during his first term, and has grown increasingly vocal about it during his second, saying earlier this month that he plans to “do something in Greenland, whether they like it or not.”
Trump has not ruled out the use of force, and just slapped new tariffs on eight European nations ― ostensibly U.S. allies ― that he said would stay in place until he has control over Greenland.
Polls show Trump’s pursuit of Greenland is wildly unpopular with the American public.
