Alan Brazil has been a mainstay at talkSPORT for many years, but the former player had to be taken off the air after feeling unwell on the show
Alan Brazil had to end his presenting shift on talkSPORT early after feeling unwell while he was in the middle of his set.
The former Manchester United and Scotland star had been carrying out his normal duties presenting his show with ex-Aston Villa forward and England international Gabriel Agbonlahor. Two-and-a-half hours into the show, the pair cut to a commercial break.
However, when Agbonlahor returned to the studio, Brazil was nowhere to be heard. It was then the ex-Villa captain offered a short statement explaining the 66-year-old had become unwell and would not be returning to the studio for the rest of the show.
Agbonlahor said: “You’re listening to the talkSPORT Breakfast with me, Gabby. Big Alan Brazil is feeling a bit poorly, but he’ll be back as soon as he can.”
The ex-Premier League forward was then joined by Katie Shanahan, who had been on the airwaves this morning, presenting talkSPORT’s Early Breakfast show between 5am and 6am.
In case viewers were worried about the condition of the iconic radio presenter and pundit, Shanahan reassuringly said: “Alan Brazil is currently feeling a bit poorly but don’t worry listeners, he’s okay.”

Brazil has been one of the most famous and popular presenters on the show since talkSPORT’s inception all the way back in 2000. He is also known for playing for the likes of United and Ipswich Town, as well as Tottenham Hotspur and Coventry City.
Brazil also played for USA side Detroit IGN, Australian side Wolves FC and Swiss team FC Baden, whom he retired at in 1987. A back injury forced Brazil to pack in his football career earlier than he would have liked.
Ever since he hung his boots up, he has become one of the most entertaining characters on the sports airwaves. In March 2024, he amused listeners by going ‘AWOL’ and missing his morning shift at talkSPORT, not long after being seen at a bar at the Cheltenham Festival.
He was supposed to be in the studio to present the breakfast show between 6am and 10am on the Friday morning but did not report for duty. Chris Evans, after being quickly drafted in to fill in for the ex-United star, said: “Well has he made it? Ermm, no is the answer, not thus far at least. I’m really sorry about this talkSPORT massive but it’s Chris Evans here from Virgin Radio.
“I’m there twiddling my thumbs waiting to host my show and the production team here said ‘We don’t think Brazil’s going to turn up today. He’s a proper no-show today, missing in action’. So if you have seen Alan Brazil in the last 24 hours, where have you seen him, where was the sighting, what time was it as well? If you don’t know what you’re looking for, Alan Brazil is robust by nature and robust by character.
“Also missing in action this morning, we’ve got Ray ‘Party’ Parlour, he’s nowhere to be seen, we haven’t seen Dean ‘Deano’ Saunders for a while, Ally ‘Goldenballs’ McCoist, no, he’s nowhere to be seen either. So if you see any of these characters, we need to know where they are because they need to be back here on the show.”
