The picturesque village that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is set to relocate to has been plagued by a month-long internet blackout – just before his planned move.

Wolferton in Norfolk was struck by a “major service outage” during September and early October, according to a local publication covering several villages on the Royal estate close to Sandringham.

The tiny community of merely 150 inhabitants, where a farmhouse is currently being refurbished for the downsizing former Duke of York’s arrival, remains without full fibre broadband connection and also endures weak mobile phone coverage.

Parish council chairman Ben Colson revealed the matter was addressed during a gathering at Wolferton Social Club.

“One of the two main items discussed was the recent month-long Internet MSO – which is Openreach speak for major service outage – which affected Wolferton in September and early October.”

In a village with no mobile signal, most analogue landline phones switched to digital by service suppliers a couple of years ago, and no everyday services, it caused considerable hardship.

“At the meeting concern was raised for emergency contact in matters of life and death.”

Mr Colson revealed that engineers dispatched to fix the network warned it would “almost certainly” break down once more.

The second “main issue” addressed by the parish in November concerned the traffic chaos affecting villages including nearby West Newton when tens of thousands flock to open-air concerts at Sandringham.

Mr Colson explained the broader region also suffers, with journeys disrupted by “severe congestion”. Mr Mountbatten-Windsor is being evicted from Royal Lodge at Windsor following the King’s decision to strip him of his Royal titles amid the controversy surrounding his association with American sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

He is anticipated to relocate to Marsh Farm on the outskirts of Wolferton around Easter and reside in temporary accommodation nearby until renovations on the property are finished.

A high security fence has been erected to shield the five-bedroom property from a neighbouring road, whilst CCTV and Sky TV have also been fitted.
