As if the derby defeat wasn’t bad enough for City fans, one of them has lost his freedom after being arrested for possession of drugs. Cops then rubbed salt into the wounds by posing in United shirts
Cheeky cops added further humiliation to a Manchester City fan arrested for drugs by posing in United shirts for his mugshot – hours after their derby win. The suspect, 43, is said to have been found with methamphetamine pills.
The bust, in north-east Thailand, came just hours after the Red Devils beat arch rivals City 2-0 at Old Trafford in Michael Carrick’s first game in charge.
And the officers who made the arrest were doubly delighted as they are all United fans. They stood behind the fan, pictured in his City shirt, and posted it online with the caption: “Manchester is RED.”
The man was arrested in Dech Udom and is seen in the viral photo sat at a desk in cuffs. Three red pills in a bag are seen on the table in front of him and three Thai cops wearing red United shirts behind him with badges around their necks.
The post went viral in Thailand, which has some of the strictest drug laws in the world and can see those caught in possession for personal use jailed for up to a year.
One user responded: “It’s good to see policemen with a sense of humour.” Another said: Unprofessional, but very Thailand.” A third quipped: “His ‘defence’ is going to be as weak as Man City’s.”
It’s not the first time Thai cops have worn footie shirts to mock their detainees. Last march, undercover cops wore Liverpool shirts to bust a Newcastle fan suspected of flagging methamphetamine tablets from a meatball stand.
That arrest came just days after the Toon beat Arne Slot’s team 2-1 at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final. District Police Chief Preecha Saingthong, who led the drug bust, said at the time: “Me and most of my colleagues are Liverpool supporters.”
United stunned bitter rivals City in Saturday’s derby clash to get ex-player Michael Carrick’s managerial reign off to a flying start.
Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring after an hour before Patrick Dorgu doubled Man Utd‘s lead 14 minutes from time. Things could have been worse for Pep Guardiola’s men as United had three goals ruled out for offside and hit the woodwork twice.
The derby defeat left City further behind league leaders Arsenal in the title race, but the Gunners later drew with Forest to keep them within touching distance.
