David and Victoria Beckham made a ‘difficult’ confession about their son Brooklyn and admitted he was given the wrong name during a very awkward interview
David and Victoria Beckham made an awkward confession when it emerged they called their son Brooklyn the wrong name.
The Beckhams have been torn apart after Brooklyn, 26, publicly hit out at his parents, Manchester United and England icon David, 50, and former Spice Girls star Victoria, 51, following months of speculation that a rift had broken out in their relationship.
Brooklyn confirmed the split after claiming his mother and father manipulated him throughout much of his life, also alleging they’ve “tried endlessly to ruin his relationship” with his American actress wife Nicola Peltz, 31, the daughter of billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz and model Claudia Heffner.

But 25 years ago, a then-baby Brooklyn was the centre of a hilarious interview with Sacha Baron Cohen’s legendary comic creation Ali G. The comedian spoke to David and Victoria in a timeless sketch for Comic Relief in 2021.
Dealing with with the satirical character, Victoria told Ali G she hoped the two would be good parents, which was quickly followed by a question of when they would teach Brooklyn how to roll a spliff. “I would never teach him that!” Victoria replied. “Why not? You should never deny a kid education,” Ali G argued back before Posh gave a very firm retort: “Education?”
Not wanting to get bogged down in a conversation he didn’t look like winning, Ali G then asked the reason why they named their son Brooklyn.
To which Victoria explained: “Well, we found out that I was pregnant while I was on tour in America and we was in Brooklyn at the time.”
Ali G interjected, believing he had unearthed a rather intimate detail of how their first son came about. “For real? So has you actually done it there?” he eagerly asked.
Victoria corrected him but did let slip the answer he was looking for. “No we didn’t do it there,” Posh replied. “We did it in Denmark, if you really want to know.”
But her admission saw a curious Ali G wonder why they hadn’t named their son Denmark. Leaving a sheepish Victoria to respond: “It didn’t have the same kind of, you know?”
However, the Staines local argued: “That would be a well good idea though what, cos if me and me Julie had a kid, we’d call him Langley Village. His full name would be ‘The bogs in KFC in Langley Village’!”
The singer said Brooklyn liked dancing to her music and also playing football, before confirming he was then aged just two, prompting a legendary quip from Ali G, who asked: “So tell me, is your little boy starting to put whole sentences together?”
Victoria answered: “He’s learning the bits and pieces, so yeah.” To which Ali G – poking fun at her England ace husband – joked: “And what about Brooklyn?”
Ali G then asked: “Is you all contented he’ll grow up to be a normal kid?” Victoria said: “Yeah. Yeah I think so, I mean obviously it’s going to be difficult for him, but umm…”
Ali G quickly chimed in: “Cos he is called Brooklyn?” To which Posh bit back: “You’re called Ali and that’s a girl’s name – do you find it difficult?”
She later revealed her hope for Brooklyn’s future career prospects, quipping: “Yeah, I’d like him to grow up to be a footballer like his dad, and I’d like to grow up to be a singer like Mariah Carey!”
