Compact, no-plumbing appliances are becoming increasingly popular, particularly in smaller homes and rental properties where permanent installation isn’t possible. Loch, an independent Scottish company, has built its reputation around this idea, and its Capsule countertop dishwashers are designed to offer a practical alternative to handwashing without taking up much space.

Now, the brand has reduced prices across its range, with £50 off both the Capsule and Capsule Solo models, which the brand claims are the ‘most energy-efficient compact dishwashers on the market today’. While the two models share the same core performance, they’re designed for slightly different needs.

The original Capsule dishwasher, which is down from £399.99 to £339.99, is the more feature-rich option between the two. It uses an independent water tank but also gives users the option to connect the dishwasher to plumbing if they choose.

It supports the use of rinse aid and includes UV light sanitation which makes it better suited to those who want additional wash customisation or a more permanent kitchen setup. It also includes 10 different wash programs to choose from, UV assisted drying and a ‘three-stage debris filter’ that catches large food scraps.

Despite its compact 26cm width, it can hold up to 35 items (with a dual tray), including large plates and full-sized frying pans. Customers also don’t need to worry about the cost as it is the most energy-efficient mini dishwasher available according to the website and should only cost around £10 per year to run for a standard two person household.

Despite its compact 26cm width, it can hold up to 35 items, including large plates and full-sized frying pans.

Another key feature is it runs at a quiet 57 dB which could be compared to a low noise washing machine or quieter than most vacuum cleaners, minimising background kitchen noise. It also comes with a built-in carry handle and an optional travel bag if shoppers need to move, pack and take it with them.

The Capsule Solo is the more streamlined and as the brand describes it, affordable model, between the two. Priced at £297.49 down from £349.99, it delivers the same wash power, capacity and efficiency as the Capsule but is designed to be used without plumbing only.

It doesn’t include rinse aid or UV sanitation, making it a simpler option for those who want a straightforward, portable dishwasher with minimal setup. Both models feature a stainless steel interior that helps retain heat efficiently, allowing dishes to be washed and dried in as little as 15 minutes.

It uses 2.6 litres of water per quick wash which Loch says is ‘up to four times less than washing by hand’, so is economical, and its specs are 46 cm tall, 26 cm wide and 50 cm deep, which Loch claims makes it the ‘narrowest dishwasher on the market’ too.

They’re both designed to sit on a countertop, fit into a base unit or be moved between locations, with removable trays, filters and baskets making cleaning and maintenance simple. For those looking for something a little cheaper, there is the Bush Slimline Dishwasher up for grabs for £259 from Argos.

This 45cm dishwasher is said to be perfect for smaller spaces and it comes with six programmes to choose from, including a rapid programme which can wash a full load in as little as 30 minutes. An additional choice could be the eklipt Table Top Dishwasher for £209.99 from Amazon. With over 400 bought in the past month on Amazon, this dishwasher is small but it can hold four full place settings and it is a 3-in-1 washer that can wash, dry and store items in the one place.

Back to the Capsule dishwashers however, one happy customer wrote online: “We’ve been looking for years for a dishwasher that fits a narrow spot near the sink that didn’t need to be hooked up to the faucet or plumbed in and this has been fabulous. I have already recommended it to a friend.” Another chimed in: “ WOW…..What an amazingly awesome mini dishwasher!

“I purchased the Capsule due to the options it offered and the versatility of it being mobile with a built-in carry handle or placed on a countertop or in a kitchen base unit. Also the choice of program and plumbing options. The ease and convenience of filling and cleaning the water tank(s) is just brilliant. My Capsule dishwasher arrived within two days of placing the order. The set up was easy along with the manual full of tips and information to ensure you get the most out of this mighty little machine. Easy to clean the inside with a removable tray, cutlery basket, sprayers and filters and stainless steel sides. The digital touch control panel is clear, easy to use and shows the program counting down during your selected cycle. I have not used the sink since this arrived. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Capsule dishwasher and would highly recommend it. Thank you Loch Electronics, this is just fabulous.”

As part of a longer review however, this person mentioned a downside with the dishwasher, saying: “The only “downside” is that it fits a little less than I imagined; but it’s pretty connected to the size of items.” Another wrote: “The capacity is quite small after all or maybe I just have big cups and plates.”

Overall, most of the customers were happy, as this person commented on the Capsule Solo saying: “Been using it every day for a month, couldn’t be happier.”
