Israeli clubbers ‘have been advised to say ‘Free Palestine’ earlier than DJ would play music’ at West End bar

Israeli clubbers were allegedly told by a DJ to say ‘Free Palestine‘ to continue playing music during a karaoke night at a West End bar.

Humanitarian activist Ahmed Alkhatib had arrived at the Munster Tavern with a colleague shortly after midnight on Sunday, where they witnessed the alleged ‘antisemitic’ incident.

The Gaza native claimed the DJ had begun playing the song Tel Aviv Ya Habibi, but repeatedly stopped it within seconds of starting.

Mr Alkhatib said he thought it was a technical issue at first, before realising the song was being interrupted deliberately.

He then approached the DJ to ask what was happening, as other revellers, including a group of Jewish people, had also become confused.

‘You know what he tells me?’ Mr Alkhatib told Jewish News, adding: ‘He said, “If one of them comes out on stage and says Free Palestine out loud, I’ll play it”.’

Mr Alkhatib said he immediately objected, claiming the demand was unnecessary and targeted, and pointing out that the Jewish group was ‘not bothering anyone’.

He has since condemned the incident as ‘total antisemitism’ and felt it was discriminatory.
