Michael Schumacher ‘is not bedridden and watches F1 races’ as large well being replace leaks

Michael Schumacher is not confined to his bed but cannot walk and depends on nurses wheeling him around his home in a wheelchair, fresh reports suggest.

Very little information has emerged about the Formula One legend’s condition since his devastating skiing accident 13 years ago in December 2013. Schumacher sustained a severe brain injury and was helicoptered to hospital where he remained in a medically induced coma for six months.

His wife Corinna and the family have deliberately restricted details about the seven-time F1 world champion’s situation. Schumacher hasn’t been spotted in public for more than a decade and is presently receiving care at an enormous villa in Las Brisas, Majorca reportedly valued at £30million. However, Mail Sport have provided a fresh update claiming he isn’t bed-bound and can get about his residence, albeit only in a wheelchair with help from a team of medics, carers and therapists.

The 57-year-old gets continuous medical attention. Such care is reported to cost the Schumacher family tens of thousands of pounds weekly.

Extremely few guests are permitted into Schumacher’s home, whether he’s at his Majorca estate or his primary home in Gland, Switzerland. But one individual granted access is ex-Ferrari team boss Jean Todt, reports the Express.

And it’s alleged Todt and Schumacher view Grands Prix together. Todt disclosed twelve months ago that he continues to visit his ex-Ferrari teammate “regularly”.

He explained: “The family has decided not to answer the question [about Schumacher’s health], a choice that I respect. I see him regularly and with affection, him and his family. Our bond goes beyond the past work. It is part of my life which today is very far from Formula One.”

However, the report suggests it remains uncertain whether Schumacher, whilst alert, comprehends his surroundings. An unnamed insider revealed: “You can’t be sure whether he understands everything because he cannot tell anyone. The feeling is that he understands some of the things going on around him, but probably not all of them.”

Claims emerged from Germany that Schumacher was present at his daughter Gina’s wedding when she wed Iain Bethke in 2024. Yet such reports seem to be inaccurate and the German legend was not in attendance.

Ex-F1 mechanic Richard Hopkins, who frequently shared coffee with Schumacher in the paddock, told Daily Star Sport’s sister title Daily Express Sport earlier this month: “The Keep Fighting Michael campaign is still alive. Obviously, as time goes on, there are fewer and fewer people, and it sort of dilutes a little bit. But everybody keeps thinking about him. You can’t not think about Michael and his situation.

“We can only imagine that not a lot is being said because there’s maybe not a lot to say. We’re not seeing him because maybe the family don’t want him to be seen in the condition he’s in. That obviously generates your own ideas and images, and I think we all probably have a similar idea of the state that he’s in.

“We’re probably not too far off the mark in our assumptions of where he’s at right now. I haven’t really spoken to anybody closer to that inner circle about what I think. But I think we all think the same.

“Of course it’s a little bit frustrating that we’re kept in the dark. But I don’t think we’re that in the dark. I think our own assumptions are fairly accurate about where he’s at right now.”
