Holidaymaker reveals the 5 errors to keep away from when visiting Krakow

Krakow is a popular city in Poland, attracting hordes of tourists every year with its impressive architecture, history and good-value food and drink.

Whilst many visitors might stick to the same spots and activities, one holidaymaker has shared the five mistakes not to make when visiting the beloved destination.

Emma, who goes by @emmahaswanderlust on TikTok, described it as ‘one of the most beautiful cities in Europe’ and revealed how to make the most out of a trip there.

The keen traveller advised against staying in Old Town Krakow, a popular spot where many tourists enjoy visiting.

Although Emma acknowledged the area is ‘stunning’, she added, ‘It’s not the whole story’.

‘Spend time in Kazimierz,’ she recommended, a historic part of the city’s Jewish quarter.

‘This is where I stayed, I found it calmer, it was cooler, it was full of character, cafes, bars, history and atmosphere without the crowds,’ Emma explained.

‘I feel like that’s where Krakow really comes alive.’

Visitors choosing to only dine in tourist squares could be missing out on good meals, according to Emma.

She advises travellers to check out restaurants just a few streets back and look for menus that aren’t ‘translated into six different languages’ for a more authentic experience.

Although, there are some more touristy spots worth checking out too, Emma says.

Many visitors visit Auschwitz during a trip to Krakow, but Emma urges people not to ‘rush’ through it ‘without context’.

For those wanting to visit Auschwitz, she recommends researching the history beforehand and doing a guided tour, as well as having time to process afterwards.

‘It’s heavy, it’s emotional, it’s important and it deserves respect, not rushing,’ she explained.

Emma urged holidaymakers not to view Krakow as a ‘cheap little escape’ for ‘bar hops and vodka tasting’.

She understands that these are many of the positives about the city to enjoy, but argues there is so much more too.

Emma recommends heading out of Krakow when visiting to really enjoy the local and surrounding area.

Lastly, the travel enthusiast warns visitors against underestimating how ‘walkable’ Krakow is.

She explained much of the city is flat and easy to explore, meaning there is no need to take a taxi.
