Schoolboy, 10, is combating for his life after automotive ploughed into him as he rode his scooter: Man, 28, arrested ‘over drug driving’

A 10-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was hit by a car while riding his scooter.

Police and paramedics rushed to Honeypot Lane in Stanmore, London, on Sunday morning.

The schoolboy had been on a morning walk with his family and was riding his scooter when a car ploughed into him while he crossed the road. 

The boy was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where his condition remains critical.

A 28-year-old man was stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. 

He has since been interviewed under caution and bailed. 

Officers are appealing for anyone with information or video footage to come forward.

They are interested with anyone with doorbell or dashcam footage in the area between 8.15am and 8.35am on Sunday, January 25. 

Detective Sergeant Nush Puvitharan, from the Met’s Roads and Transport Unit, said: ‘Firstly, our thoughts are with this young boy and his loved ones at this very difficult time.

‘A family had their lives turned upside down during a Sunday morning walk and our team are now working around the clock to piece together what happened. 

‘It’s imperative we gather as much evidence as we can to ensure we can build the full picture of the incident, and are encouraging anyone who can help to come forward and talk to us.’
