The Department for Work and Pensions has confirmed 178 medical conditions which could make you eligible for PIP payments worth up to £187 per week
Thousands of Brits may be in line for a financial uplift this year from of the Department for Work and Pensions.
The DWP has unveiled a comprehensive list of medical conditions which could qualify individuals for Personal Independence Payment (PIP), effective from 25 October. The list comprises 178 medical conditions, potentially making you eligible for regular support payments of up to £187.45 per week.
These payments are designed to assist those who require additional help with daily living tasks. Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a disability benefit provided to individuals with long-term physical or mental health conditions, disabilities, or learning difficulties. PIP is particularly beneficial for those of State Pension age who wish to maintain their independence at home. Importantly, these payments are not means-tested and are tax-free.
During the 2025/26 financial year, recipients will receive either £77.05 or £110.40 each week, depending on the level of support required, reports the Express. Payments are set to rise by 3.8%, in line with other benefits, at the commencement of the new financial year.
Personal Independence Payments are granted to individuals suffering from long-term illnesses, mental health conditions, or physical or learning disabilities. Eligibility for PIP is not contingent on National Insurance contributions, and it’s not means-tested – meaning even if you’re employed, have savings, or are receiving other benefits, you can still qualify for the payments to assist with daily living tasks.
PIP comprises a daily living rate and a mobility rate – you could qualify for one of these payments or both simultaneously. Each of these rates provides a standard rate and an enhanced rate.
Here are the current weekly rates, though it’s vital to note that PIP is paid every four weeks: Daily living component: £73.90 (lower weekly rate) or £110.40 (higher weekly rate).
Mobility component: £29.20 (lower weekly rate) or £77.05 (higher weekly rate).
Therefore, if you’re entitled to both the enhanced daily living and enhanced mobility components of the payments, you will receive a total of £749.80 every four weeks. If you’re entitled to both the standard daily living and standard mobility components, you will receive £412.40 every four weeks.
Nevertheless, since we are presently in January 2026, these rates are set to alter. In April 2026, the DWP will boost benefit payments by 3.8%.
