Police are appealing for witnesses after a person sustained serious elbow injuries following a dog bite incident at Llanon beach, Cardigan Bay, at 4.30pm on Wednesday, January 28
A person has been left with serious injuries after being bitten by a dog on a beach in Wales. Police are now hunting for the pet’s owner as an investigation gets underway.
The incident began around 4.30pm on Wednesday (January 28) at Llanon beach, Cardigan Bay. During the attack, it is believed that the victim suffered a severe and deep cut to their elbow.
Dyfed-Powys Police have since launched an appeal to help find the owner of the dog responsible. The force released a description of the owner in the hope that someone might recognise him and come forward with information.
The man is described as being in his late 40s, white, and was dressed in blue jeans, trainers and a blue zip-up hoodie at the time of the incident, according to Wales Online. He is also believed to have short brown hair, no facial hair and speaks with a Welsh accent.
His dog is described as a large black animal resembling a bulldog and was on a lead. A spokesperson for the force said: “We are appealing for witnesses or any information following a serious dog bite on a person, which occurred around Llanon beach at 4.30pm yesterday Wednesday, January 28 .
“The victim sustained a serious injury to their elbow whereby the skin has been cut deeply.” The spokesperson also gave an in-depth description of the suspected animal involved, urging anyone who may have seen the man or the dog in question to reach out as quickly as possible.
“Description of dog: Big black dog that was similar to a bulldog but much bigger, dog was on a lead,” Dyfed-Powys Police said. “If you have any information that might help our investigation, please get in touch.”
This is not the first incident in recent months involving a dog bite, as a nine-month-old girl was tragically killed after being mauled by an XL bully in November. Gwent Police rushed to the scene at a house in the town of Rogiet, with dozens of other emergency vehicles also being alerted.
Police said at the time that a major emergency incident was declared at the home on November 2, with services such as the Welsh Ambulance Service being called to the scene. However, despite their best efforts to resuscitate Jonte William Bluck, she was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The dog responsible for the attack was seized by police and removed from the property as officers began their investigations into what happened. However, the shock passing of the little tot left the local community shocked, with many paying tribute to the heartbroken family after the shocking incident.
“My heart is bleeding for all affected by what has happened this evening in Rogiet,” wrote one user at the time, “praying hard for those affected.” Whilst a second added: “Absolutely heartbreaking, thoughts are with the family.”
