A footballer was shot six times by a gang of thugs and left to die in the street during a brutal robbery.

Club Deportivo Napoles captain Carlos Omar Oyuela Aguilar was riding his motorbike along a road in Marcovia, southern Honduras, when several armed men are said to have blocked his path on Tuesday night, January 27.

According to local reports, a struggle then broke out as the crooks tried to rob his bike and the footballer was shot at least six times. There are contrasting reports as to whether the attackers then fled with the motorcycle or abandoned the bike, but their victim was left lying critically injured in the road.
