The most romantic words ever written have been unveiled – and they include a line from the film Finding Nemo.
The cartoon clownfish’s heart-melting phrase “I look at you, and I’m home” finished second in the list. And the most popular among the adults surveyed was Charlotte Bronte’s line from novel Jane Eyre “My heart is, and always will be, yours”, research found.
Arwen’s legendary declaration in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring “I would rather spend one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone” also ranked among the nation’s favourites.
It comes as LEGO Botanicals, which carried out the study, is hosting a love letter masterclass on February 3 at The Notting Hill Bookshop in London with writer Caroline Quentin. Caroline said: “Can an emoji really convey as much heartfelt meaning as a thoughtful love letter? Will a quick text be remembered as long as a deeply felt sentiment penned in a card?
“I’m so happy to be joining the LEGO Group to bring back proper love letters. Who knows I may even put pen to paper to remind my darling husband that I love pink roses and daisies and after more than twenty years, I still adore him too.”
The research also found 35% of Gen Z and 27% of millennials have never penned any words of love. And more than half reckon they would feel silly or awkward writing a love letter.
But a resounding 60% of Brits of all ages admitted they would love it if their partner wrote them some personal romantic words. And modern ways to show affection according to the under 40s quizzed were sending memes and “couple TikToks”.
