Jannik Sinner’s girlfriend Laila Hasanovic was not in attendance for his Australian Open semi-final against Novak Djokovic and the reason for her absence has now been explained
Jannik Sinner’s quest for a hat-trick of Australian Open crowns came crashing down against Novak Djokovic at the semi-final hurdle this year. Yet the four-time Grand Slam winner’s girlfriend Laila Hasanovic was nowhere to be seen.
The Italian hadn’t tasted defeat in Melbourne for more than three years when he locked horns with the evergreen Djokovic in the last four, quickly establishing a 2-1 advantage. However, Djokovic mounted a stunning comeback to triumph 3-2 and secure another major final berth at 38, setting up a showdown with Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner wasn’t short of backing at Rod Laver Arena, but whilst other tennis WAGs grabbed the spotlight at the Australian Open, his other half was conspicuous by her absence. The reason behind her no-show has now emerged.

Taylor Fritz’s partner Morgan Riddle and Alexander Zverev’s fresh flame Caroline Daur were both front and centre in Melbourne, yet Hasanovic was not there to cheer on her beau Sinner.
The 25-year-old Danish model typically occupies Sinner’s player box during his major Grand Slam clashes and was present for his 2025 French Open final appearance and Wimbledon victory. Though these appearances preceded their relationship going public.
However, she decided to skip Melbourne entirely and the snub was purely professional as Hasanovic was busy strutting her stuff at Fashion Weeks across Europe. The model’s Instagram posts revealed the real story behind her no-show, as she was walking runways in Copenhagen and Paris while her boyfriend was battling it out on court.
Hasanovic put her modelling commitments first, meaning she couldn’t be there to support Sinner during his clashes with Djokovic or quarter-final rival Ben Shelton.
The couple made their romance official at the Vienna Open in October 2025. Sinner triumphed over Zverev in the final and used his victory speech to publicly acknowledge their relationship for the first time.
“It was such a difficult start in this final for me. I went a break down, had some chances in the first set but couldn’t use them,” Sinner said after his triumph.
“Zverev was serving very well, but I just tried to stick there mentally and play my best tennis when it came. To everyone here, my family, my girlfriend, my friends and my whole team watching from home, thank you so much for your support.”
The Danish social media star and model was there that day alongside Sinner’s mum and dad, although the Italian isn’t her first celebrity romance. Prior to Sinner, Hasanovic dated ex-Formula 1 racer Mick Schumacher, son of racing icon Michael.
Hasanovic and Schumacher were together for approximately three years before parting ways in April 2025. The following month, Sinner also ended his relationship when he and tennis player Anna Kalinskaya called time on their romance.
