A lot of planning and preparation goes into wrestling matches, but even the most experience star can suffer a wardrobe mishap beyond their control, often caused by pressure put on their gear during a match
Wrestlers are highly trained athletes who take great pride in all aspects of their craft, from their in-ring skills to the gear they were. But as it’s live entertainment, things can go wrong unexpectedly.
And one of the things that often goes wrong is an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction in front of a global audience, which the stars often have no control over and can stop a match dead in its tracks.
From ripped catsuits and torn trousers to full-blown nip slips at the worst time, your Daily Star runs through some of the most memorable wardrobe malfunctions in WWE history.
Charlotte Flair
Charlotte Flair suffered a wardrobe malfunction during a match with Nia Jax on Smackdown last year, forcing the WWE to cut the broadcast. As she dived at her opponent from the top rope, the WWE cut to black while Flair adjusted her top.
But later in the match, she suffered a second slip and had to run to the turnbuckle to readjust her top and rearrange herself properly, with the tv broadcast again cutting to black while she sorted herself out.
AJ styles
The Phenomenal One’s tights split open during a match with Dean Ambrose in 2016, flashing a bit more flesh to the world than he had planned. During a spot in the match at the TLC event, a huge hole in the back of his tights was visible to the tv audience.
The incident caused a stir on social media as stunned fans found the sight of his bare backside hilarious. One fan even recreated the gear on a WWE video game and Styles himself referenced the mishap on tv.
Natalya
Nattie Neidhart comes from wrestling royalty and proudly dons her pink and black attire as a nod to her WWE Hall of Fame dad Jim Neidhart and uncle Bret Hart.
But her gear let her down on the biggest stage of all in 2018 when her catsuit split right above the crotch as she was eliminated from the women’s Battle Royal in a moment that went viral.
And to make matters worse, Natalya revealed she wasn’t wearing any underwear during the incident – and wasn’t even aware of it happening until she got backstage and was told by fellow star Becky Lynch.
Alexa Bliss
The star was forced to rearrange her gear mid-match after it Lyra Valkyria’s hair became tangled up in her top live on Raw. In front of the crowd, and millions of tv viewers, Bliss was forced to strip her top off in the ring.
Cameras cut away to Charlotte Flair during the tag match and fans were stunned by her lightning fast reaction to keep the match going.
Lyra Valkyria
The Irish star, real name Aoife Marie Cusack, also suffered a wardrobe malfunction of her own during last year’s Royal Rumble when the clasp holding her top together appeared to come undone during a move.
She scrambled to cover her modesty and was forced to take a minute recovering in the corner and trying to sort her outfit out. Eagle-eyed fans praised Liv Morgan for pushing her to the side since during the match to let her have the time to get sorted.
Rick Rude
Ravishing Rick Rude was one of the top stars during the 1980s and was involved in an angle which saw him flirting with Jake Roberts’ wife and even wore a special pair of tights with her face over his crotch.
Roberts’ took exception and charged the ring to whip Rude’s kecks off in front of a giggling crowd. Rude was left fully exposed, but tv cameras were able to blur his bits to cover his modesty.
Eva Marie
In 2017, Eva Marie’s match with Becky Lynch on Raw was cancelled after her breasts popped out of her top during the clash. The referee covered her modesty with a towel before she ran off backstage.
An announcer then quickly addressed the crowd over the PA system, saying: “Ladies and gentleman, due to a wardrobe malfunction Eva Marie can not compete and therefore this match can not take place.”
