Guards rushed to the scene and the serial killer, 74, was hauled before a governor after carrying out a sickening sex assault on a young vulnerable victim she had “groomed” in prison
Depraved Rose West groomed a “vulnerable” young inmate before sexually assaulting her in her prison cell, it is claimed. Guards rushed to the scene and the serial killer, 74, was hauled before a governor.
She has been disciplined by jail bosses and stripped of her privileges after the incident, which shocked hardened lags at New Hall women’s prison, near Wakefield, West Yorks.
The sicko was jailed for life in 1995 for the murder of ten women and girls with her husband Fred. And she is said to still be “extremely dangerous” by prison insiders despite “looking like a frail pensioner”.
A source said she befriended her victim, said to be in her 20s, and “basically groomed her” before carrying out the sickening attack.
The insider told The Sun: “She befriended a young girl, in her 20s, and basically groomed her before the attack. Her victim is vulnerable and West took advantage of her before trying to force herself on her.
“The whole prison is talking about it and inmates are shocked, despite what they might have done themselves. It is pretty disgusting she had the freedom to do something like this in the first place.”
West is among 16 inmates in Rivendell House, a special unit for women with personality disorders or those with enhanced status. Each has an ensuite cell. Communal areas are more inviting than other blocks, according to inspectors.
She has a disabled room on the ground floor and is escorted by officers at all times in case she is attacked. West is said to “have form” for trying to make friends with young girls in the unit and allegedly offers them help with things like cooking and sewing.
It was previously reported that West posts her fellow lags Christmas cards under their doors in a desperate bid to make pals. She also gives selection boxes from the prison’s shop to a chosen few.
She is said to now be overweight with grey hair but still wearing her distinctive thick-rimmed glasses. In 2020 she changed her name to Jennifer Jones but everyone at the prison knows her identity, it was reported.
Fred West was charged with 12 murders but took his own life in jail in 1995, aged 53, before his trial. Rose West is serving a life sentence for 10 murders.
