Seven men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man who was attacked by an armed mob. The victim, in his 40s, died this morning (February 3) after being discovered ‘critically injured’ on Monday night.

Officers arrived at the scene in Bristol around 10.45pm yesterday and came across a group of men – some reportedly armed with blades – on Stapleton Road.

The seven suspects, aged between 18 and 29, were searched and arrested after a foot chase in and around Trinity Walk and George Jones Park.

Roughly 10 minutes later, a victim was found gravely wounded a short distance away on Stapleton Road, near the junction of Trinity Road.

He was rushed to hospital for treatment, but his injuries were deemed “unsurvivable.”

A forensic post-mortem examination will be conducted in due course, along with the formal identification process.

Avon and Somerset Police have stated that since the man’s death, they are now treating this investigation as a murder enquiry.

All seven men in custody were re-arrested today on suspicion of murder.

Police cordons remain in place on Stapleton Road and George Jones Park while enquiries, including forensic work and CCTV checks, are ongoing.

Superintendent Deepak Kenth said: “Efforts to trace the man’s family are ongoing and a priority for us. They will be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers and kept up to date with developments in our investigation.

“This murder enquiry is in its early stages, and we will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to identify the person, or persons, responsible.

“Seven arrests were made last night prior to the man’s death, and those people will be questioned over the coming hours as we build up a comprehensive picture of what happened.

“We urge anyone with information, however inconsequential it may seem, to please come forward.
