British Airways flight ‘declares mid-air emergency’ as main airport sends fireplace crew

A British Airways flight from the UK was forced to declare a mid-air emergency shortly before it was about to land at a Danish airport. The signal from the pilot prompted the airport to prepare emergency crews, who raced to meet the plane near the runway.

Flight BA812 had taken off from London Heathrow but experienced an issued shortly before it was due to land at Copenhagen Airport on Sunday (February 3).

The Airbus A319 was on its final approach to Copenhagen Airport when pilots transmitted a ‘Squawk 7700’ code, which is used as the international signal for a general emergency in the air.
