Long arm of the paw! Moment police canine brings bag thief who pushed lady to the ground to justice

This is the moment a shameless thief was tracked down by a police dog after hurling a woman to the floor and fleeing with her handbag.

Scott Hyam, 39, followed the victim near Wherstead Road and Croft Street in Ipswich before attacking her in broad daylight on September 13 last year.

Clad in all-black, the thug is seen throwing the woman to the floor in startling CCTV footage before snatching her belongings and shouting in her face.

As she lies helplessly on the ground, he then makes off with her rucksack and is spotted sprinting down a lane heading towards the city centre.

Police were called about the attack shortly after 2.15pm and offered a clear description of Hyam by the victim, who said she knew him and was not seriously hurt.

He was eventually caught by an officer and a heroic police dog named Thor after initially resisting arrest.

Bodycam footage shows the officer yelling, ‘stop or I’ll send this dog’, as Hyam refuses to be brought to justice.

He was arrested when Thor was unleashed on him, with the officer ordering: ‘Stand still or this dog is going to bite you.’

Scott Hyam, 39, was jailed last month for 15 weeks after denying a charge of robbery but admitting assault by beating
