Birmingham Conservatives have published an open letter begging the 73-year-old widow of Ozzy Osbourne to join their campaign and help “balance the books”
Sharon Osbourne may swap showbiz for city hall after the Tories invited her to go head-to-head with a convicted terrorist in local elections.
They reckon the straight-talking star could help sort out the city’s cash woes. The local Conservatives published an open letter begging the 73-year-old to join their campaign and help “balance the books”.
Councillor Robert Alden made the pitch after the Celebrity Big Brother star reacted online to news that Shahid Butt planned to run in the Birmingham City Council vote in May.
He was convicted over a plot to blow up the British consulate in Yemen but has insisted the charge was “fabricated”. Mr Butt said he was “falsely convicted” after being tortured into signing a confession.
After watching a social media video featuring Mr Butt, Mrs Osbourne said on her Instagram: “I think I’m gonna move to Birmingham and put my name down for the ballot to be on the council,” adding “I’m serious.”
Cllr Alden wrote: “There is no doubt that Sharon Osbourne getting elected would help turn the Council around from looking into the void. Sharon is clearly passionate about wanting to help make our city even better.”
He also said her media and music background could help the party “get Birmingham singing again”, adding: “If Sharon would like to help us clean up Birmingham, just give us a call.”
If she takes them up on the offer, she would join the likes of Donald Trump and Arnold Schwarzenegger, who also swapped showbiz for politics.
The X Factor star paid tribute to her late husband Ozzy Osbourne before the Grammys this week.
She said he had a “magical” knack for picking out future stars like rocker Yungblud, adding: “Everyone who touched Ozzy did well.”
Sharon was last seen in Birmingham in July when she attended Ozzy’s funeral.
The Black Sabbath legend died in the same month, aged 76, weeks after reuniting with the band on stage in Aston.
Sharon later thanked fans for the “otherworldly amount of love” she received, saying: “Your comments, posts, and tributes have brought me more comfort than you know.”
